ASE-enforced speeding offences

If you are the owner of a motor vehicle that travels in excess of the speed limit in a school zone or community safety zone where Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is in use, you will receive an offence notice in the mail.

An image of the motor vehicle – identified by the system as speeding – will be on the offence notice along with an enlargement of the plate portion. There will also be information as to where and when the offence of speeding occurred, as well as the posted speed limit and the actual speed of the vehicle.

It is important for vehicle owners to note that the offence of speeding, when detected through the use of an ASE system, is an owner liability offence.

What does this mean for a vehicle owner?

If you receive a ticket, you have three options:

  1. Pay the ticket.

  2. Early resolution or Walk-in Plea of Guilty

  3. Request a trial.
